Owenego Beach Club Rules & Regulations

Please carefully review the following rules and regulations. These guidelines are provided so that we may maintain an atmosphere of peace and harmony. Thank you for your cooperation.

GATE HOUSE and GUEST FEES

Upon entering the property, all cars are required to stop and register at the gate. The gatehouse attendant will give you your bathhouse key and direct you toward a designated parking area. At the gate, you must register and pay a guest fee of $15.00 per guest over the age of 5, between the hours of 9 am – 5 pm. Any one guest is limited to four visits per season. Guest fees must be paid at time of visit, as we do not allow these fees to be charged.

If the gate is unattended, we ask that you abide by the honor code and register your guests in the office. FYI… the office houses duplicates of bathhouse keys. You may make a copy of your bathhouse key, but the original keys must be returned to the gate at the end of each day. There is a slot for key returns on the side of the gatehouse.

PARKING & ACCESS ROADS

Parking areas will be designated by the gatekeeper and, on weekends, by a parking attendant. Please cooperate with them, as they are under the strict direction of the office.

Cars are strictly prohibited from the driveway that encircles the office, with the exception of tenants, hotel guests, and those requiring handicapped parking.  Please keep handicapped spaces open for those truly in need. PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY and CAREFULLY everywhere on the property, as we have children of all ages at play. Speed limit is 5 MPH.  For safety purposes, we must prohibit the riding of bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards and scooters, especially on the boardwalk. It is great to cycle to the O, but park your bike once here.  Parents, please help us to enforce this rule.

BATHHOUSES

Bathhouses are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. The primary purpose of a bathhouse is for changing and for limited storage. If sharing a bathhouse, please be courteous to those sharing with you. The Owenego is not responsible for any lost or broken items. Members are required to empty bathhouses by October 1st. After October 1st, all doors are tied open, in our pursuit to avoid vandalism.  If we receive notification of an impending storm, we may urge members to temporarily empty their bathhouses for the duration of the storm as a precautionary measure.

LIQUOR

ABSOLUTELY NO OUTSIDE BEER, WINE OR LIQUOR may be brought onto the Owenego grounds. Any alcoholic beverages must be purchased through the Owenego. Violators will have cooler confiscated and membership revoked. Our liquor license mandates the strict enforcement of this rule with POSITIVELY NO EXCEPTIONS.

COCKTAIL LOUNGE & BEACH BAR AT THE O

State law prohibits minors under the age of 21 from entering a bar, unless accompanied by a parent. Please have children purchase their soft drinks and chips from The Hungry Dog Snack Bar.

PATIOS, DECKS & MAIN BUILDING

We delight in seeing our members and their guests enjoy the patios and decks. During a wedding or private function, though, we must request that members utilize the lower patios rather than the upper and side decks. Kindly access the waterfront by following the brick pathway, rather than cutting through the main building or across the decks. Sandy feet, wet bathing suits, and beach gear are strictly prohibited from the main building at all times. Please use The Beach Bar.

PICNIC AREAS

Please refrain from leaving items on tables early in the morning to reserve them for late afternoon picnics, as this frustrates those wanting to picnic throughout the day. PLEASE dispose of trash in receptacles provided. Kindly return all glassware to the bar.

Picnic tables and grills are provided for your pleasure in Picnic Grove near the playground. You may bring portable grills to these areas. Under no circumstances, however, may you bring grills to the lower patios or waterfront area. In addition, absolutely no food from outside vendors (pizza, grinders, etc…) may be consumed on the lower patio or in The Beach Bar or in the area immediately surrounding the patio. Food service in these areas is provided through our Hungry Dog Cafe.

BEACH & JETTY

Lifeguards are on duty between the hours of 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays, and from 8 am to 6 pm on weekends and holidays, Memorial Day through Labor Day. While our lifeguards are vigilant, it is the responsibility of parents to closely supervise children at all times. We ask that you swim within the area designated by buoys. Inflatables are permitted in the swim area, but paddles are not. Please do not jump off of raft onto inflatables. Roughhousing cannot be tolerated, nor can we permit you to throw each other off the raft. Swimming off the jetty is strictly prohibited. Passage on the jetty is at your own risk. No food or beverages allowed on the beach.  Lastly, please refrain from sitting or climbing on the railings.  Children must always be with an adult on the jetty and in the swim area.  Please cooperate with the guards, as safety is our utmost concern.

BOATS

All boats must be registered with the office, as there is a storage fee of $90 per boat per season. All boats must be removed prior to October 1st. We also ask members to be mindful of the weather.  If heavy winds are forecasted, please remove your kayak for the duration of the storm to avoid damage to the boat, property and individuals.  The Owenego does NOT accept responsibility for stolen or damaged boats. Motorized boats and jet skis are prohibited from the beachfront at all times. Sailboats and paddleboats must access The Sound via the designated boating lane, cautiously avoiding the swim area.

CAPTAIN KIDS’ PLAYGROUND

Guidelines are posted near the playscape.  PLEASE escort young children to the playground and supervise your youngsters at all times.  We cannot have young children running across the access roads alone.

TENNIS

Rules are posted on the tennis website and on the message board at double courts. Of utmost importance, players must wear proper tennis shoes on the courts and clean the courts after play.  Unless playing tennis, children may not play on the courts.  Also, kindly refrain from walking across the tennis courts when going from the driveway to the playground.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
