MAY

 

Kentucky Derby                                                                                  Saturday, May 3rd

We have our first wedding of the season upstairs, but, should you care to watch the race beachside, we will be giving the Beach Bar the first run of the season. As long as the sun shines, come enjoy cocktails on the lower patio and watch the Derby in the Beach Bar. As a reminder, since there is a wedding upstairs, we ask that everyone please follow the brick walkway to and from the patio.

Spring Wreath Workshop w/ Outdoor Design                                     Wednesday, May 7th

We are so excited about this partnership with Outdoor Design and Living Guilford!!! Our friends at Outdoor Design and Living Guilford will be teaching us how to make a beautiful Spring Wreath right here at The O. Pricing includes a 20 – 22” grapevine wreath, decorations and instruction. Have fun with friends, while decorating your wreath and sipping on a complimentary glass of wine.

Mother’s Day Brunch w/ Shaken & Stirred                                         Sunday, May 11th

Join us for a delicious Mother’s Day Brunch catered by Shaken & Stirred. From 11 – 11:30, enjoy assorted pastries and treat yourself to a Mimosa or a Bloody Mary. At 11:30, we’ll start inviting tables through the buffet – Egg Sliders (Egg, Cheese & Pancetta or Pesto and Red Pepper), Cheesy Scrambled Eggs, Applewood Smoked Bacon & Sausage, Chicken Bites & Waffle, Mini Avocado Toasts, Honey Baked Ham, Garden Salad in a Cup, & Macaroni & Cheese, followed by dessert – mini cheesecake parfaits and cannoli cups. Moms will be treated to a complimentary Mimosa upon arrival.

Let’s celebrate the season’s arrival!! Enjoy a tasty selection of hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour, followed by a delicious buffet, featuring Beef Short Ribs, Chicken Piccata, Roasted Red Potatoes, Penne a la Vodka, Green Beans, Garden Salad and Warm Rolls. For dessert, warm chocolate chip cookies and carrot cake cupcakes. Food Truck & Firepit Friday w/ the Orchard Hill Band                      Friday, May 23rd

Let the summer begin… Join us on the lawn for our first Food Truck & Firepit Friday of the season – a festive evening of food trucks, firepits, and fun. While the event officially starts at 6, members have the advantage of arriving early to get settled and to enjoy dinner from the trucks prior to the crowd. We waive the entry fee for members and offer special member parking on the garden lawn. Please help us out by coming in one car per family, and kindly adhere to the no outside food, no cooler policy – please enjoy dinner from the trucks.

JUNE

 

Kayak & Small Boat Safety & Inspection                                            Sunday, June 1st

            w/ Coast Guard Auxiliary

Many of us have kayaks, so let’s be sure that we are paddling safely. Join us on the beach bar patio at 11 a.m. The O will provide coffee, and representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will provide us with a brief paddle craft safety talk, followed by USCG vessel safety checks for anyone interested. Provided that safety requirements are met, kayak owners will receive a USCG Vessel Safety Check decal for the season. There is no fee for this service, but please let us know in the office if you plan to attend, so that the USCG can plan for staffing and supplies. Members who attended last year really enjoyed this opportunity, so we encourage all paddlers to attend.

Father’s Day – Burgers, Beer, & Ballads                                             Sunday, June 15th
Spend a relaxing day at the water’s edge, and then treat Dad to dinner from the The Shanty, brews from New England Brewing, and some ballads by fellow member, Don Fillion.

Wine Class 101                                                                                    Thursday, June 26th

Let’s raise a glass to summer!! Gather around the long table, where Gary Costa will teach us all about wine. We are serious about wine, but we keep instruction purposefully at the 101 level. Sometimes we even stay late to do our homework together. Join us for wine, some light nibbles, and fun in a festive atmosphere. Sign up for all 3 classes. Reservations Required.

1. J. Julia Book Fair & Magic Show w/ Justin Mazz Sunday, June 29th

Discover the magic of reading… We’re so excited to have R.J. Julia Booksellers join us back at The O. Children of all ages are encouraged to join us on the dance floor for the magic of Justin Mazz. After the show, stock up on summer reading at the R.J. Julia Book Fair. This year, R.J. Julia will be bringing even more titles for adults and children alike.

Thimble Island Cruise                                                                         Thursday, July 3^rd

All aboard for a two-hour tour. Don’t worry, Gilligan and the Skipper won’t be on board – just us!! Meet us at the Stony Creek Dock at 5:30, and we’ll board the Sea Mist at 6 for a two-hour cruise through the spectacular Thimble Islands. The O will provide nibbles and music, and should you care to treat yourself to a cocktail or two, the Sea Mist will offer a cash bar. Since capacity is limited, payment in full is required at time of reservation – thanks in advance!!

This huge, community event is near and dear to our hearts, as it benefits Camp Rising Sun, a camp where “kids with cancer have fun.”  Have fun, while raising funds for this incredible camp. Let’s stretch!! Our 8-week yoga adventure begins Monday, June 2nd from 6:00-7:00 pm on the upper lawn. No yoga experience required! Kelly’s classes are designed to leave you feeling stronger, more flexible, and deeply rejuvenated—physically and mentally. Here we are with the season stretched ahead of us. Part of what we love about The O is to grant members the opportunity to unplug, unwind, and slow-down from the hectic pace of life. We also like to grant members the opportunity to connect with others, while enjoying activities that spark their interests. So, please share your ideas… If there is a club or an activity that you would like to see happen at The O, please let us know by emailing us at info@owenego.com – cornhole tournaments, bridge, setback, etc… Parents, we would especially like to hear ideas for children.
